Before your initial session, we'll conduct a brief 15 minute virtual consultation to assess how I can help you. Should you choose to move forward, we'll schedule our first session. If it turns out that I'm unable to meet your specific needs, I'll make every effort to connect you with an appropriate alternative. Following this, I will email you my intake form, informed consent, and fee schedule agreement via the Jane app program.
During our initial session, I'll go over the intake form you completed prior to our meeting and engage in a discussion about informed consent. We'll proceed to sign the necessary forms. Then, we'll delve into your current concerns, gather some background information to better understand your situation, identify your strengths, available resources, and support systems, and discuss any previous attempts you've made to address these issues. This session is an opportunity for us to familiarize ourselves with one another, explore your therapy objectives, and establish initial goals that align with your specific needs and preferred therapeutic approaches.
Appointments are 50 minutes in length (unless an extended session is booked). Payment is due at the end of the session and we book your next appointment if you choose to do so. Ideally, we try to find a regular time, which will be your designated time spot and several sessions can be booked in advance.
Information about counselling sessions will not be released to anyone without your informed, voluntary, and written consent. The exceptions include but are not limited to:
Adolescent Confidentiality
A child who is assessed by a health care provider as being capable to give consent is called a "mature minor". A child who is a mature minor may make their own health care decisions independent of their parents' or guardians' wishes. In B.C. there is no set age when a child is considered capable to give consent.
I work from a family-systems approach and try to engage you and your teenager in the therapeutic process, with the young person’s permission. This could include having the parents meet with their own therapist while the young person is working with me in therapy.
You are welcome to bring a support person with you. They are welcome in session or can wait for you in the waiting area. Please discuss with me what your needs are.
Please provide 2 full business days notice if you need to cancel your appointment so I can make your appointment available to someone else. You will be charged the full fee for your appointment if you do not provide 2 full business days notice (e.g. for a Thursday session, notice must be received by 5 pm on the Monday prior to allow for 2 full business days).

All three mental health professionals can perform psychotherapy. Clinical counsellors, often referred to as therapists, specialize in providing psychotherapy to clients in clinical or community settings. Psychologists usually have a doctorate degree, may be more specialised, and often work in clinical settings. They can administer tests and diagnose clients. Psychiatrists can do all of the above, although often provide assessments only. Psychiatrists have completed medical school and therefore can also prescribe medication. Visits to a psychiatrist require a referral from a doctor and are covered under MSP. Psychologists and clinical counsellors are usually covered under extended benefits. Contact your insurance provider to learn more about what is and what is not covered.
